How Long Is a Digital Marketing Course in Ghana?

Most digital marketing courses in Ghana take between one week and three months. A short single-skill course runs 1–2 weeks. A professional certificate — the most common format in Ghana — runs 8 to 12 weeks, which is 2 to 3 months. Free sponsored bootcamps run 13 to 14 weeks full-time. A university degree in digital marketing takes 1 to 2 years.

That is the short answer. Below is the detail: what each length actually gets you, how many hours a week each one demands, what Ghanaian institutions currently charge, and — the question underneath the question — how long it really takes before you can earn from this.

How long each type actually takes, and what it gets you

One to five days — the masterclass

A single-day or few-day workshop covering the fundamentals: what the platforms are, how campaigns are structured, what the terms mean. GIMPA Training Centre, for instance, advertises a five-day foundation course in Digital Marketing & Business Strategy.

What it gets you: orientation. You will understand the landscape and stop being confused by the vocabulary.

What it does not get you: competence. Nobody has ever become a marketer in a day. These are useful as an introduction or a refresher, and expensive if you expected a skill at the end.

One to two weeks — the single-skill course

One platform, taught properly. Facebook and Instagram Ads, or Google Ads, or SEO — not all three. Our own two-week courses run six sessions on a single subject and cost GHS 1,500.

What it gets you: the ability to run that one thing yourself. A business owner who finishes a two-week Facebook Ads course can build, launch and read their own campaigns.

Best for: business owners who need one channel working, and people already in marketing who need to close a specific gap.

Eight to twelve weeks — the professional certificate

This is the standard in Ghana, and for good reason. It is long enough to cover the whole discipline and short enough to finish. Accra Business School advertises an eight-week Professional Development Certificate; uniYAT Practical Institute runs a twelve-week programme; ours is twelve weeks, 24 sessions, GHS 3,500.

What it gets you: the full stack — paid ads on multiple platforms, SEO, content, email and WhatsApp, analytics — plus, on a good programme, a real campaign you have planned and run yourself.

Twelve weeks is not arbitrary. Marketing has a feedback delay built into it: you launch a campaign, and the data that tells you whether you were right arrives days later. A course shorter than about eight weeks cannot fit a full cycle of learn it, run it, see the result, fix it. You can be taught the buttons in a week. You cannot be taught judgement in a week, because judgement comes from watching your own decisions play out.

Thirteen to fourteen weeks — the free bootcamp

Fully-funded programmes such as Generation Ghana’s run roughly 13 weeks in person or 14 online, typically for people aged 18–35, often with job placement support at the end.

The catch is not quality — it is that they are full-time, Monday to Friday. Free costs you three months of income. For an unemployed graduate that is an outstanding deal. For someone with a job or a business, it is impossible. Intakes also open and close, so check the current status directly rather than trusting any article, including this one.

One to two years — the degree

UPSA offers a Master of Arts in Digital and Strategic Marketing Management; GCTU offers an MSc in Digital Marketing. These are academic qualifications aimed at management and strategy, not at making you operationally sharp on an ad platform.

If you want the credential and the theory, they are the right route. If you want to be running campaigns competently by Christmas, they are not. We wrote a fuller comparison in university marketing programmes versus practical short courses.

The question underneath the question

Most people asking how long a course takes are really asking something else: how long until I can earn from this?

Those are different numbers, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Here is the honest version, based on what we see with our own students:

  • Weeks 1–4: you learn the platforms and stop feeling lost. You can set up a campaign correctly.
  • Weeks 5–12: you run real campaigns, get real numbers back, and start understanding why things worked. This is where the actual learning happens.
  • Month 4–6: first paid client, or a job, or your own business finally advertising properly. Usually your first client is someone who already knows you.
  • Month 6–12: you are competent without supervision. You can price your work honestly because you know what it takes.

So the course is three months. Getting genuinely good is closer to a year — and the course is what makes that year productive instead of confusing. People who skip the structure usually take the same year and end up with less, because nobody ever told them what they were doing wrong.

How many hours a week should you expect?

Duration only means something alongside intensity. A twelve-week course at four hours a week is 48 hours of teaching. A thirteen-week full-time bootcamp is closer to 500.

For a part-time professional certificate in Ghana, plan for:

  • 4–6 hours of class per week — usually two evening sessions, or one longer Saturday session
  • 3–5 hours of your own practice per week, which is the part people underestimate and the part that decides the outcome
  • A small live ad budget during the practical weeks — even GHS 20–30 a day teaches more than another lecture

If you cannot find eight hours a week, a twelve-week course will take you longer than twelve weeks in practice, whatever the brochure says.

Weekday or weekend — does it change the length?

It should not, and on a well-run programme it does not. Our weekday track runs Tuesdays and Thursdays; the weekend track runs Saturdays. Both cover the same 24 sessions in the same twelve weeks — the weekend track simply runs longer sessions on fewer days.

Online should not change it either. Ours runs the same twelve weeks, the same live classes, at the same price as attending in person. Be careful with any provider whose online version is shorter or cheaper — that usually means it is recorded rather than taught, and recorded courses are the ones people do not finish.

Can you learn digital marketing in one month?

You can learn one part of it in a month, properly. You cannot learn the whole discipline in a month, and any programme claiming otherwise is either covering the surface of everything or quietly relying on you to teach yourself afterwards.

If a month is genuinely all you have, our honest advice is to pick a single channel and go deep rather than take a rushed overview of six. One skill you can actually perform beats six you have only heard about. That is the reasoning behind our two-week single-skill courses — they exist because a shallow twelve-week course would be worse than a deep two-week one.

Frequently asked questions

How many months is a digital marketing course?

In Ghana, most professional certificate courses run 2 to 3 months — typically 8 to 12 weeks part-time. Short single-skill courses take 1 to 2 weeks, free full-time bootcamps run about 3 months, and university degrees take 1 to 2 years.

How long is the GIET digital marketing course?

Twelve weeks — three months — made up of 24 live sessions plus a final campaign project, available on a weekday or weekend track, in person in Accra or live online. The fee is GHS 3,500.

Is a 3-month digital marketing course enough to get a job?

Enough to be employable, yes — but only if you finish it with work you can show. Employers in Accra ask what you have actually run, not what you attended. A three-month course plus one real campaign you can talk through will beat a longer qualification with nothing to demonstrate.

How long does it take to become a digital marketer in Ghana?

Three months to become competent enough to start; six to twelve months of doing the work to become genuinely good. The course compresses the learning; it does not remove the need for practice.

Can I do a digital marketing course while working?

Yes, and most people here do. That is why part-time evening and weekend tracks exist. Expect to give it about 8 hours a week in total, including your own practice.

Are shorter courses worse?

Not if they are honest about scope. A two-week course on one platform, taught well, is far more useful than a twelve-week course that skims everything. The problem is not length — it is a short course pretending to be comprehensive.

The bottom line

If someone asks us how long a digital marketing course should take, the answer is: long enough to run something real and see what happened. In practice that lands between eight and twelve weeks, which is why almost every serious programme in Ghana sits in that window.

Shorter than that and you are buying information. Longer than that, in a part-time format, and most people stop turning up.

Our 12-week Professional Certificate in Digital Marketing is built to that shape — 24 sessions, weekday or weekend, in Accra or live online, GHS 3,500, with the next intake starting 15 September 2026. If you only need one skill, the two-week courses cover a single platform properly for GHS 1,500. And if you would rather test the free route first, we have listed every free course worth your time, honestly.

Not sure which length fits your situation? Call or WhatsApp 059 951 1825, or book a free strategy call. We will tell you if a two-week course is all you need — it often is.
